About unit


The Sector for Geodetic, Geological, and Meteorological Affairs plays a role in coordinating activities between the entities, as well as representing Bosnia and Herzegovina internationally in these areas. Entity bodies carry out activities within their jurisdictions and ensure the implementation of regulations and plans.

The Sector for Geodetic, Geological, and Meteorological Affairs consists of two departments:

  • Department for Geodesy
  • Department for Geology and Meteorology

Within the scope of the Department for Geodesy, the following tasks are performed:

  • Cooperation with entity and other government authorities in the field of geodesy – Federal Administration for Geodetic and Real Property Affairs FGU (https://www.fgu.com.ba/bs/), Republic Administration for Geodetic and Real Property Affairs RGU RS (https://www.rgurs.org/sr-lat), Department for Public Registry of the Government of Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina (https://www.jr.bdcentral.net/),

  • Preparation and implementation of projects in the field of geodesy,

  • Cooperation with international organizations, institutions, and bodies in the field of geodesy – European Position Determination System EUPOS (https://www.eupos.org/node/9),

  • Preparation and execution of international agreements in the field of geodesy.

Within the scope of the Department for Geology and Meteorology, the following tasks are performed:

  • Cooperation with entity and other government authorities in the field of geology and meteorology – Federal Hydrometeorological Institute of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina FHMZ FBiH (https://www.fhmzbih.gov.ba/latinica/), Republic Hydrometeorological Institute of the Republic of Srpska RHMZ RS (https://rhmzrs.com/), Federal Institute for Geology FZZG (https://fzzg.gov.ba/), Republic Institute for Geological Research (https://www.geozavodrs.com/#),

  • Preparation and implementation of projects in the field of geology and meteorology,

  • Cooperation with international organizations, institutions, and bodies in the field of geology and meteorology – World Meteorological Organization WMO (https://wmo.int/), European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts ECMWF (https://www.ecmwf.int/), European National Meteorological Services Network EUMETNET (https://www.eumetnet.eu/),

  • Preparation and execution of international agreements in the field of geology and meteorology.

The issuance of geospatial data and data on cadastral parcels, hydrometeorological data, as well as geological and hydrogeological data is the responsibility of the relevant entity institutions.

State Commission for the Borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina

The State Commission for the Borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina is established based on Article 38 of the Border Control Law ("Official Gazette of BiH", No. 53/09, 54/10, and 47/14). This law requires the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina to submit a proposal to the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the appointment of the State Commission for the Borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will lead the activities of border delineation with neighbors and the preparation of border agreements on behalf of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The mandate of the Commission lasts for three years, after which a new proposal for the composition of the Commission is submitted.

The Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina is obligated to provide administrative and technical assistance to the Commission, in accordance with the responsibilities outlined in Article 38 of the Border Control Law.
