The Minister of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dubravka Bošnjak, is in New York, where she participates in the work of the Commission on Population and Development of the United Nations. This is the 56th session of the Commission held at the headquarters of the United Nations, and the focus of the session is on problems in the areas of demography, education and sustainable development.

At the session, the first to be held in full session after the pandemic, the importance of the proposed topics related to the area of population, education and sustainable development was emphasized, especially bearing in mind that the COVID-19 pandemic had consequences for health, education, progress and sustainable development.

In her presentation, Minister Bošnjak emphasized that there is no socio-economic progress if we do not invest in human resources, creating equal opportunities and opportunities for everyone.

Minister Bošnjak emphasized the importance of developing educational systems that will be modern and aligned with the needs of the labour market. She called on member states to work towards achieving universal access to education and health care, with a special emphasis on lifelong learning. She appealed to the most developed member states to support those in need, ensure continuous aid for development, and especially to help establish a modern way of thinking and technologies that would help less developed countries to increase productivity and achieve equality.

Minister Dubravka Bošnjak also appealed for universal access to education, equal rights and opportunities for everyone in the field of education, regardless of their social status, race, gender, ethnicity or physical and mental disabilities.

She said that strong human capital is extremely important for socio-economic development, and countries from which the emigration of educated young people will continue will have difficulty reaching the level of development of developed countries. This means that developing countries cannot achieve the goals of sustainable development, and with regard to globalization and the achievement of a world equal for all, this means that the failure of less developed countries is the failure of all of us, Minister Bošnjak pointed out.

The Minister confirmed Bosnia and Herzegovina's commitment to the full implementation of the ICPD Programme of Action to ensure that women, girls, the elderly and people with disabilities, as well as young people, have full access to quality education, productive employment, universal reproductive health services and full protection of their rights.
