The State Commission for Cooperation of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) held its constituent session today in Sarajevo, after a four-year break, thereby reinstating the work of the body and creating conditions for the implementation of numerous projects.

The members of the UNESCO State Commission, nineteen of them, were appointed on the proposal of state and entity ministries responsible for issues in the UNESCO domain. The President of the Commission is the Minister of Civil Affairs, Dubravka Bošnjak.

The State Commission for Cooperation of Bosnia and Herzegovina with UNESCO is an advisory body to the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and its role is to consider issues of international cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and UNESCO in the fields of education, science, culture, and information. The Commission also exchanges experiences and knowledge in these areas and acquaints institutions and organizations in the country with the objectives and activities of UNESCO. Special attention is paid to the preservation and promotion of properties under UNESCO protection, as well as the preparation of nominations for the UNESCO World Heritage List, the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the International Register of the Memory of the World, and others.

UNESCO has provided significant support to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the past period by implementing numerous projects and activities. The main modality of cooperation and communication with this organization can be achieved by citizens and organizations from Bosnia and Herzegovina through the State Commission for UNESCO of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The successful implementation of UNESCO programs and activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina is facilitated by the existence of the UNESCO Regional Office in Venice and the office in Sarajevo, with which the State Commission for UNESCO of Bosnia and Herzegovina maintains very good cooperation.
