The Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina has supported the initiative of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH and approved the conclusion of the International Agreement between the European Union and Bosnia and Herzegovina on the accession of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the EU4Health Programme. This agreement makes Bosnia and Herzegovina part of the European Union's most ambitious health programme.

The Minister of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dubravka Bošnjak, has been appointed as the signatory. Additionally, a Decision on the provisional application of the Agreement has been made, which will be valid from the date of signing until it enters into force. This step enables Bosnia and Herzegovina to apply the Agreement from 1 January  2024, opening up the possibility of participating in the Programme calls for 2024.

The EU4Health programme, with a budget of €5.3 billion, is implemented from 2021 to 2027. This budget is the largest compared to all previous cycles of the European Union's health programme. The budget increase has been approved with the aim of strengthening the health systems of countries to respond to the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, enhancing their readiness for future crises, and addressing health challenges.

The EU4Health Programme provides significant financial support for the improvement of health systems in EU member states and associated countries. This programme contributes to achieving four general objectives and ten specific objectives that represent key areas of intervention in improving and nurturing health, protecting people from serious cross-border health threats, improving access to medicines, medical products, and products relevant for crisis situations, as well as strengthening healthcare systems in participating countries.

The Ministry of Civil Affairs will continue to coordinate activities related to the accession and participation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the EU4Health Programme, in collaboration with relevant institutions in the country.
