The Minister of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dubravka Bošnjak, is participating in the 74th session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for Europe, taking place in Copenhagen. The main topics of this year’s session include strengthening health systems in preparation for potential health crises and pandemics, the increasing need to enhance mental health, the digital transformation of healthcare, the continuation of immunization efforts among vulnerable groups, and the health system’s response to climate change.

Minister Bošnjak stated on this occasion that Bosnia and Herzegovina faces challenges but also opportunities. “Digitalization of health services at all levels is among our highest priorities, as we recognize that technology is a powerful tool for improving the accessibility, quality, and efficiency of healthcare,” emphasized Minister Bošnjak. She particularly highlighted that strategies based on innovation and digital solutions will significantly contribute to the better provision of health services and oversight of the health system throughout the country, as well as timely reporting to international health institutions.

Minister Bošnjak also emphasized the importance of building capacity to ensure that Bosnia and Herzegovina is ready to respond quickly and effectively to new health challenges. In this context, developing a strategy for emergency health interventions and preparing the health system for future crises is a crucial step toward a safer future.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is actively working on reforms as part of the EU accession process, with significant technical support provided by the WHO and partners, particularly in redesigning primary and hospital healthcare. Financial support from the European Union and the World Bank enables the continuation of these reforms.

This year’s 74th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe (RC74) brings together key representatives from 53 member states in Copenhagen to discuss strategic health issues and agree on new initiatives for the region. Key topics include strengthening health system resilience and sustainability, preparing for health crises through a strategy called Preparedness 2.0, and a plan for action for regional medical teams by 2030, which will enhance capacities for rapid response in crisis situations.
Additionally, innovative approaches to healthcare and financial strategies for the sustainable development of health systems across Europe are being considered, focusing on common challenges such as the rise of chronic diseases and health inequalities.
