Ministers of Health in BiH Commit to Strengthening the Nursing Profession

In recognition of the key role that nurses and medical technicians play in the healthcare system, the Minister of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dubravka Bošnjak, the entity Ministers of Health, and the Head of the Department of Health of the Brčko District of BiH signed a Joint Statement confirming their commitment to strengthening the nursing profession throughout the country. The statement was signed at the Sixth Conference in the Field of Health held in Neum.

Minister Bošnjak expressed gratitude to all nurses and medical technicians for their daily dedication, selflessness, and courage, emphasizing that their efforts deserve sincere recognition and lasting gratitude from society.

"They do all this with a single goal – to help those who need assistance the most," Minister Bošnjak highlighted.

In addition to Minister Bošnjak, the Joint Statement was signed by the Minister of Health of the Federation of BiH, Nediljko Rimac, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare of the Republika Srpska, Alen Šeranić, and the Head of the Department of Health and Other Services of the Brčko District, Zoran Bulatović. The statement was addressed to the Swiss Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, healthcare partners, and all stakeholders contributing to healthcare reform.

The ministers expressed collective gratitude for the continuous long-term support of the Swiss government, whose dedication and expertise have been key to improving the quality and resilience of healthcare services in BiH.

The ministers emphasized that nurses and medical technicians are the cornerstone of quality, accessible, continuous, and safe healthcare for all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

 They pointed out numerous challenges in public health, including, among others, growing needs and an aging population, and stressed the importance of strategically strengthening the nursing profession, which is crucial for the sustainability and resilience of the healthcare system. As strategic directions and measures, they highlighted improving working conditions and modernizing nursing education in accordance with European standards, while ensuring continuous professional development.

 By signing this Joint Statement, the ministers committed to permanent and coordinated institutional support to create an environment where nurses and medical technicians can fully realize their professional potential.

"We believe that only with a strong, empowered, and recognized nursing profession we can build healthcare systems based on the principles of professional excellence, equality, and patient safety," the statement concludes.
