The Minister of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dubravka Bošnjak, attended the ceremonial opening of the 21st Symposium on Pediatric Surgery and Urology with international participation, held at the Amphitheater of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Mostar.

“The 21st Symposium on Pediatric Surgery and Urology confirms the continuity and professional recognition of this symposium, which for many years has brought together physicians, university professors, and experts from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the region, and abroad in Mostar. Over the years, the symposium has grown into an important platform for the exchange of clinical experience, academic knowledge, and international practice, with a focus on concrete professional issues that doctors encounter in their work with children,” Minister Bošnjak stated.

Additional significance was given to this year’s program by the participation of André Matere, Director of Eurotransplant, who delivered a lecture on the topic “Organ Transplantation in Children.”

The participation of the Director of Eurotransplant comes at a time when the first kidney transplant has been successfully performed at the University Clinical Hospital Mostar, marking an important step forward in the development of the transplant program and modern medicine in Mostar, while further strengthening the hospital’s position as a center of excellence.

This historic achievement represents a new chapter in the development of transplant medicine in Mostar. On this occasion, Minister Bošnjak congratulated the medical team on their accomplishment, emphasizing that the procedure confirms the high level of expertise and dedication of the hospital staff.

The Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina is actively working to strengthen professional communication and cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Eurotransplant in the field of organ donation and transplantation. In this process, the Ministry plays a coordinating role, particularly in connecting relevant healthcare institutions, the professional community, and international partners.

The participation of Eurotransplant representatives at the symposium in Mostar therefore represents an important professional contribution to discussions on the development of transplant medicine in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Minister Bošnjak emphasized the importance of enabling domestic experts to directly exchange experiences with representatives of relevant European organizations, especially in areas of medicine that require a high level of organization, expertise, and interinstitutional cooperation.

Minister Bošnjak’s presence at the opening of the symposium represents a continuation of the activities of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina aimed at encouraging professional dialogue, the exchange of experiences, and strengthening cooperation with relevant European partners in the field of healthcare.
