The third session of the Commission for Combating Drug Abuse was held in Neum, chaired by the Minister of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dubravka Bošnjak.

The session addressed key issues in the field of control and fight against drug abuse, including the drafting of amendments to the Law on Prevention and Suppression of Drug Abuse, as well as updating the List of Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances, Plants from which Narcotic Drugs can be obtained, and Precursors.

Given the previously identified need to improve the existing legal framework, the Commission members initiated activities to form an inter-ministerial working group responsible for drafting the amendments to the Law on Prevention and Suppression of Drug Abuse. The current law has been in force since 2006, and the need to align it with international standards and practices has been recognized as a priority.

A conclusion was also adopted to initiate activities to supplement the List of Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances, Plants, and Precursors. It was emphasized that the supplements concern substances included in international narcotic drug lists since the last update of the List until today, highlighting the importance of updating the List for timely and effective conduct of criminal proceedings and imposition of sanctions in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Commission members also considered the work of the Working Group tasked with drafting the State Strategy for Drug Control, Prevention, and Suppression of Drug Abuse, and the State Action Plan for Combating Drug Abuse in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the period 2024-2028, as well as other issues significant for strengthening the system to combat drug abuse in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
