Ministry of Civil Affairs launches initiative to conclude an agreement between Bosnia and Herzegovina and NASA

The Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina has launched an initiative to conclude an agreement with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration of the United States (NASA).

The aim of the initiative is to enable schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina to access the international educational and scientific GLOBE Programme, focused on environmental observation and hands-on learning in the STEM field.

Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) is an international scientific and educational programme that connects students, teachers, and scientists in monitoring and studying the environment.

Students in primary and secondary schools carry out measurements in their local surroundings and share the data with the international scientific community, thereby contributing to the collection of real-world environmental data.

Participation in the programme would provide students and teachers in our country with practical experience in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), foster international cooperation, and offer an opportunity to contribute to real scientific data.

In order for schools from Bosnia and Herzegovina to participate in the GLOBE Programme, a bilateral agreement with NASA is required, which is why the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH has initiated procedures for its preparation and conclusion.

Opinions on the draft agreement have been requested from the competent ministries of education of Republika Srpska, the Federation of BiH, all ten cantons in the Federation of BiH, as well as the Department of Education of the Brčko District of BiH.

The programme currently brings together more than 120 countries, and by concluding the bilateral agreement, Bosnia and Herzegovina would join this network, further strengthening international cooperation in science, education, and the application of modern technologies in environmental protection.
