A meeting was held today in Sarajevo between the Minister of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dubravka Bošnjak, and Professor Dr. Halim Resić, President of the Donor Network of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The meeting focused on key issues related to organ transplantation, particularly the process of Bosnia and Herzegovina joining Eurotransplant.
Minister Bošnjak emphasized the importance of Eurotransplant for better access to transplant medicine in the country, noting that the Ministry has initiated a series of activities to achieve cooperation and ultimately membership in this organization. The goal is to foster faster and more efficient collaboration with member countries, thereby increasing the number of organ transplants and reducing waiting lists for patients in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During the meeting, it was assessed that more needs to be done to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation among citizens. Challenges faced by the Donor Network were also discussed, including the need for education for medical staff and the wider public. As a result, joint activities have been announced for the upcoming period to implement a campaign aimed at raising awareness about donation.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to continue cooperation and information exchange between the Ministry and the Donor Network, with the aim of creating a more efficient organ transplantation system in Bosnia and Herzegovina and providing better healthcare services for patients in need of transplantation.
