Demining as a Development Priority: Minister Bošnjak Meets with EUFOR Commander

The Minister of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dubravka Bošnjak, received the newly appointed Commander of EUFOR in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Major General Maurizio Fronda, on his inaugural visit. The meeting focused on the demining process and the preparation of a new law on demining.

Minister Bošnjak welcomed General Fronda and emphasized the importance of the European Union military mission in preserving a safe and stable environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina, stressing that such stability is the foundation for implementing reforms, economic development, and the country’s progress on its Euro-Atlantic path.

General Fronda presented EUFOR’s priorities, highlighting that the mission continues to operate under the executive mandate of the United Nations with the aim of supporting the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina in an impartial manner and in close cooperation with domestic institutions.

A significant part of the discussion was dedicated to accelerating mine clearance activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In this context, Minister Bošnjak stated that the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina is, among other activities, working on drafting a new state-level law on demining.

Mine clearance in Bosnia and Herzegovina is directly linked to infrastructure development, the safety of local communities, and attracting new investments.

In cooperation with domestic institutions, particularly the Bosnia and Herzegovina Mine Action Centre (BHMAC), the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and civil protection structures, EUFOR assists in planning, coordination, and capacity building.

Minister Bošnjak and Major General Fronda expressed their readiness to continue constructive cooperation, emphasizing the shared goal of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Union to preserve a stable and secure environment and create conditions for long-term stability and sustainable economic development in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
